The Southern Athletic Association (SAA) released on Monday afternoon the weekly award for men’s tennis. After a stellar weekend on the courts at Washington and Lee, Gil Weston (Singles), Jordan Theron (Doubles) and Quinn Wicklund (Doubles) were honored.

Gil Weston, SAA Men’s Tennis Singles Player of the Week
Weston, a sophomore from Milton, Ga., played two tough matches this past weekend. Against No. 37 Christopher Newport’s Jake Dolphin, playing at the No. 4 flight, he rallied from a 7-5 loss in the opening set to tie the point, 6-3. Going to a 10-point tiebreak, Weston grinded out the 10-8 win to clinch the point.

The next day against Washington and Lee, he took on James Kurani at the No. 6 position. The first set was a grind, but it was Sewanee with the 7-6 set victory thanks to a 7-3 dub in the tiebreak.

Weston would cruise to a straight-set victory for the point with a 6-4 score in the second set.

Jordan Theron and Quinn Wicklund, SAA Men’s Tennis Doubles Player of the Week
The duo picked up two wins at the top flight in doubles this past weekend. The 18th-ranked team in the country rolled to an 8-3 win over CNU’s Nesh Kumaresan/Alec Strause.

The next day, battling Evan Erb and Evan Brady of W&L, the point was forced to a seven-point tiebreak. The Sewanee duo did not allow the Washington and Lee team a point in the tiebreak to earn the win, 8-7 (0).

The Tigers return to action on Saturday against Centre and Wallace State from the Bruton-Guerry Tennis Center.
