After having their last six games rained out, the No. 5 Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lions squeaked in one game of a doubleheader against the No. 8 Central Methodist (Mo.) University Eagles before the rain rolled in to halt the second game. A great outing in the circle was helped by a three-run first inning to see FHU win 5-0.
Kennedy Harris-Bennett got the ball rolling for the Lady Lions (3-0) by drawing a leadoff walk. FHU would follow with three straight base hits to get on the scoreboard. After Catherine Crabb legged out a bunted single, Sophie Dunavant's single to left field plated Crabb. Myleah Hardy continued her career's hot start with a two-bagger down the left-field line to score Crabb and plant Dunavant on third base, scoring on Anna Kate Norton's sacrifice fly to put FHU on top 3-0;
After Central Methodist (5-2) struck out looking three times in the top of the second inning, Freed-Hardeman added a run in the bottom of the third after Norton's single was followed by an RBI single from Cassie Hayes.
Harris-Bennett connected for her season's second homer in the bottom of the fourth inning to put FHU on top 5-0.
In the one-hit shutout, Britany Adair (2-0) was dynamite in the circle, striking out eight while taking a no-hitter into the sixth inning.
All nine FHU hitters collected at lead one base knock, with Myleah Hary and Karli Quillin each tallying two.
