FHU enrollment, graduation rate continues to shatter records | Freed-Hardeman University

For the third consecutive year, Freed-Hardeman University has set enrollment records for the spring semester. A total of seven records have fallen this spring, according to FHU President David R. Shannon.

“Eight consecutive semesters of steady growth!” Shannon exclaimed. “We are grateful for all who have helped us continue attracting students who value a quality education in a Christian environment. We are thankful for all the students who come to Henderson to study and grow spiritually. Glory be to God.”

The university's six-year graduation rate is now 70%, 8% above the national average.

“We are very excited about the growth in this number. A lot of faculty and staff have been working alongside students to increase academic success and to create an atmosphere where students feel like they belong,” Dr. C.J. Vires,  said. “It's great to see that these efforts are paying off!”

The total head count for Spring 2023 stands at 2,123, an all-time high. Undergraduate enrollment topped out at 1,723, up from last spring’s 1,654. This year’s fall-to-spring retention rate was 96%, up 2% over last year. A record 1,119 students are living on campus this spring. Credit hours taken by undergraduates were also up, totaling 22,332. Undergraduate full-time equivalency, 1,489, also set a record for spring enrollment.

“Our retention rate remains outstanding and increasing,” Dave Clouse, vice president for community engagement, said. “I believe that indicates strong satisfaction with FHU’s academic quality and the campus culture.”

The mission of Freed-Hardeman University is to help students develop their God-given talents for His glory by empowering them with an education that integrates Christian faith, scholarship and service. With locations in Henderson and Memphis, FHU offers associates, bachelor's, master's, specialist and doctoral degrees.
