The West TN Regional Recycling Hub received a Recycling Equipment grant from the TN Department of Environment & Conservation (TDEC) today. Commissioner David Salyers presented the grant check to the Recycling Hub during his tour of the facility .

“When communities show a collaborative commitment to recycling, we want to help, and this grant for the West Tennessee Regional Recycling Hub will meet an important need,” said Salyers. “The facility needs the equipment to do the best job possible, and we look forward to the results that will come from this effort. We congratulate everyone throughout the region involved in this process.”

The Recycling Hub was created in 2010 with a partnership between Chester County Solid Waste Department and TDEC. The Hub’s goal is for municipal governments, businesses, and other organizations to work together to increase the collection of post-consumer packaging materials for recycling and divert waste from landfills. The Hub received over $6.6 million in grant funding from TDEC to help start the facility which now serves more than 375,000 residents and partners with 14 cities and counties, 25 schools and colleges, and over 300 businesses through those partnerships.

“We are very honored to receive the recycling equipment grant. Having the necessary equipment for Hub operations is vital to running the facility,” said Chester County Solid Waste Director Amber Greene. She continued to say, “the grants the Hub receives help offset expenses on equipment needed to process materials more efficiently.”

Since 2010, the Hub has formed effective partnerships working towards the common goal of increasing recycling, environmental education and outreach, and waste diversion. Partnerships are important to the goal of working together to help communities recycle and teach future generations about its importance.
