On Monday, the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) announced their 2022 All-Conference awards, and five Lane players were selected
Leading the way was senior defensive end Andrew Farmer who was selected First Team Defense. Farmer led the nation in tackles for loss per game with 3.1. Even though his season was cut short by two games, the Jacksonville, Fla. native finished with 58 total tackles and 25 tackles for loss including 6.0 sacks.
Jacquez Jones burst onto the scene this season after Lane lost both of its top wide receivers early. Jones emerged as both a deep threat and a possession receiver as he lead the conference in receiving yards (917) and touchdowns (11). He was selected to the First Team Offense.
Senior defensive back Nijul Canada rounded out the First Team selections. A product of Mansfield, La., Canada led the defensive backfield with 54 tackles and 4.5 tackles for loss. He had what was probably the defensive play of the year in Lane's upset win over Tennessee State. TSU was driving for a potential score as the first half was winding down when Canada undercut an out route and picked off the Tigers quarterback and returned it 57 yards for a touchdown and a gave the Dragons a halftime lead.
Offensive lineman Taviauhn Turner was selected to the Second Team Offense. Turner anchored a line that helped lead the conference in third down conversions and passing efficiency. The unit paved the way for an offense that rushed for 1,713 yards while also passing for 2,101 and scoring 37 touchdowns.
Walter Tatum was placed on the Second Team Defense after a season that saw the sophomore defensive back make 41 tackles and register seven pass break ups. Hailing from Notasulga, Ala., Tatum finished the season with three interceptions, two of which he returned for touchdowns helping Lane lead the conference in defensive scores and finish ranked second nationally in that category.
