Freed-Hardeman University Musselman's Hat Trick Leads Lady Lions to Big Win

Seasons do not begin much better for the Freed-Hardeman Lady Lions who bested the hosting Toccoa Falls (Ga.) College Screaming Eagles by a final score of 5-0.

Freed-Hardeman (1-0-0) jumped out to an early lead in the ninth minute when 2021's leading scorer - Zoe Stom - continued the trend by burying a through ball from Sara Becerra past the diving keeper.

Netting the first of her trio of goals, junior forward Jessica Musselman took advantage of another nice pass from Becerra at the 19:23 mark, volleying a shot past the Screaming Eagle (0-1-0) goalkeeper to push FHU ahead 2-0.

Not content with two assists, Colombia native Becerra continued her strong debut, tallying a goal of her own at 24:43. Morgan Leighton sent a wall pass to the middle, where the left boot of Becerra tapped in the Lady Lions' third goal.

Just over 60 seconds later, Musselman recorded her second goal of the contest, heading a cross from Becerra into the back of the net to put Freed-Hardeman ahead 4-0 at 26:02.

After closing out the first half and spending a majority of the second half on defense, Musselman shut the door on TFC with her hat trick goal at 86:09 weaving in and out of traffic after taking the pass from Sammy Steggerda to finalize FHU's season opener 5-0.

Brooke Latham recorded the first clean sheet of her career, stopping both shots on goal to earn the win.
