An article published by the McNairy County News last week Spotlighting a School Resource Officer each week shared below:
The McNairy County Sheriff’s Office now has a School Resource Officer (SRO) in each of the county’s eight campuses. SROs Dameon Blue (Adamsville High School) and Wes Moore (McNairy Central High School) are each entering their fourth year as School Resource Officers. With the support of the McNairy County Commission and McNairy County School Board, funding the additional six SROs became a reality for this school year. Each week for the next few weeks the McNairy County News will spotlight an SRO and the campus they serve.
SRO Dameon Blue has worked in law enforcement since 1994. He has been certified since 1998. He joined the McNairy County Sheriff’s Office in 2016. When asked why he chose to become an SRO, Officer Blue said, “Ultimately, it was the desire to protect our most vulnerable. The collective American school system has become an unfortunate battleground and the experiences our children face is quite daunting. I wanted to be an active participant in the fight to keep our children safe when the trials of life experiences became metastasize by the influx of violence and those entities targeted our children and schools. Being here allows me to be on that front line. Additionally, I’m able to mitigate several narratives concerning law enforcement as it relates to current United States issues.”
In addition to being simply a law enforcement officer in a school, SRO Blue has also embraced being a positive influence and mentor to the students. He travels to many of the Adamsville High School sporting events to help protect athletes.High-fives and hugs are common-place with students as they pass through the halls. SRO Blue is even called on at times to listen to a song on a student’s phone. Overall it has been a very positive and rewarding experience for SRO Blue.
“This is one of the most rewarding duties I’ve been a part of as a police officer,” said SRO Blue.“Walking these halls, interacting with the county’s brightest is a true labor of love; seriously. This is my fourth year as Adamsville’s SRO and my niche here is that of “N.O.D.” (Non-Official Dad). I learned very early on that my students take comfort in having a cop in the building; however, they needed the paternal approach that I bring. That is perfectly ok with me because I’ve always believed I was a father by nature and not by definition. Simply put, I’m just a local dad who happens to be a local cop. This has proven to be very effective because it does take a village to raise a child.”
Joining SRO Blue and SRO Wes Moore will be SRO Aaron Dickey - Adamsville Elementary School, SRO BV Cathey – Bethel Springs Elementary School, SRO Jason Gray – Michie Elementary School, SRO Sam Grooms – Ramer Elementary School, SRO Mary Kate Haines – Selmer Elementary School, and SRO Nicholas Inman – Selmer Middle School.
Thank you to each of these amazing individuals for the role they’ve chosen to play in the local school system. Watch for upcoming stories on each of these amazing and dedicated officers.
