Brinley Cousar has put pen to paper and has signed to join the 2022-23 Freed-Hardeman Lady Lions in their quest for a return to the NAIA Softball World Series.
After spending two seasons at the JUCO level with Dyersburg State (Tenn.) Community College, the shortstop will look to bring a high on-base percentage to the FHU lineup. Cousar reached base safely in 49 of the 53 games she appeared in for the Eagles this season, ending the 2022 campaign with a 10-game on-base streak.
Softball head coach Todd Humphry was impressed with his new signee's on-base ability saying, "The more she is on, the more chances we have to score!"
The Covington native is also a threat on the basepaths, ranking fourth in the Tennessee Community College Athletic Association with 45 stolen bases out of 46 attempts.
If the name Cousar sounds familiar, that is because Cousar's cousin, Sarah Elizabeth Poston (née Cousar) played for the Lady Lions from 2010-2014. The member of the FHU Hall of Fame was an All-American pitcher for Coach Humphry.
"I'm very excited for her and the team!" said Poston of her cousin. "I'm hoping that she enjoys Freed as much as I did. It's a special place, and I'm just excited to be able to come back to campus and watch her play now."
"The Cousar name is a strong softball family," said Humphry. "Brinley will just add to the strength of our program."
