Cost of college went up for all students at Jackson State Community College

In-state tuition and fees rose 2.3 percent for 2018-19 at Jackson State Community College, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Tennessee residents paid $4,221 to attend the two-year public institution this year – $96 more than the $4,125 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 291.1 percent more than residents this year, or $16,509. Their price tag grew 2.5 percent from $16,101 in 2017-18.

About 99 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Tennessee residents. And about 1 percent are residents of other states.

Data shows 96 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 951 students received grants or scholarships totaling $5.8 million and 6 students took out student loans totaling more than $31,035.

Including all undergraduates (4,862), 3,939 students used grants or scholarships totaling $15.2 million.
