Yesterday, Senator Bill Hagerty of Tennessee appeared on The Big Weekend Show on Fox News to discuss the budget reconciliation package and trade negotiations led by former President Donald Trump. Hagerty, who serves on several Senate committees and is a former U.S. Ambassador to Japan, addressed the benefits he believes the package will bring.
Hagerty expressed sympathy for those affected by recent events in Texas before discussing the bill. He stated, “the Democrats and their partisan allies in the media have been attacking this bill nonstop,” despite not having seen its final form. According to Hagerty, the bill aims to rebuild military and energy independence while providing significant tax cuts that could increase take-home pay for working Americans.
Addressing comments from political strategist James Carville about potential long-term harm to Republicans from the reconciliation package, Hagerty dismissed them: “Carville just keeps getting it wrong.” He suggested that when people see economic improvements, they will support Republican efforts.
Hagerty also criticized previous Democratic policies for contributing to inflation and argued that current programs focus on improving life for American citizens. He said these efforts would benefit middle- and working-class individuals.
On trade negotiations, Hagerty shared insights from his experience with Trump during his time as Ambassador to Japan. He emphasized Trump’s commitment to fairer trade deals: “President Trump has proven himself as someone that understands this.” Hagerty mentioned upcoming deadlines for countries to finalize agreements with the U.S., underscoring Trump’s determination to achieve more equitable trade conditions.
