Senator Bill Hagerty has recently used his social media platform to address a range of political and legislative issues, including congressional representation, healthcare policy, and the passing of a notable Tennessean public servant.

On December 10, 2025, Senator Hagerty stated, “Democrats want to boost their political power by counting illegal immigrants for congressional seats. Only American citizens should determine representation in Congress and the Electoral College. My Equal Representation Act ensures representation reflects citizens, not those”. The senator’s comments reflect ongoing debates about how population counts are used for apportioning seats in Congress and allocating votes in the Electoral College. Some lawmakers have introduced legislation seeking to require that only U.S. citizens be counted for these purposes.

The following day, on December 11, 2025, Senator Hagerty expressed condolences over the death of Gerald McCormick: “I’m saddened to learn of the passing of Gerald McCormick, a devoted Tennessean and veteran who dedicated his life to public service. As a longtime state representative and former House Majority Leader, Gerald was a strong voice for our state’s conservative values. He served with”. McCormick was recognized as an influential figure in Tennessee politics through his roles as state representative and House Majority Leader.

Later on December 11, 2025, Hagerty commented on healthcare policy: “The solution to this floundering Obamacare system—created by the Democrats without a single Republican vote—is certainly not what Democrats proposed today: to continue wasting Americans’ hard-earned dollars. I hope my Democrat colleagues will stop playing their political games”. This statement comes amid continued partisan debate regarding the Affordable Care Act (commonly known as Obamacare), which was enacted without any Republican support in Congress.

Senator Bill Hagerty represents Tennessee in the United States Senate. His recent statements highlight current disputes over citizenship requirements for congressional representation and persistent divisions between parties on federal healthcare reform.
