The Lane College softball team hosted Crowley’s Ridge on Monday in the home opener of the 2023 season.

After watching a late lead slip away in game one, the Dragons bounced back to run rule the visitors, 11-3 in five innings.

Lane wasted no time in game two, plating seven runs in the first inning on nine hits, highlighted by RBI singles from Kela Ray, Jonni Sanchez, Ariana Battle, and Halle Koger. Of note, all seven runs were scored with two outs.

Sophomore pitcher Autumn Phillips kept the Pioneers’ bats at bay, allowing just one earned run in 5.0 innings of work.

Leading 7-3 entering the bottom of the fifth inning, Sanchez led off the inning with a single before Lane registered two quick outs. Back-to-back singles from Shanna McNair and Shawna McNair set Millay Lambert up to end the contest early. She did just that, belting a three-run home run over the left field wall to give the Dragons the win.

Shawna McNair ended the game 4-for-4 with two RBI. Shanna McNair was 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Lambert ended the night 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored.
